As usual, I try to release a new version of my maintained applications a few weeks after a new GNOME release. Here is a summary of what has changed.
Blanket
Blanket 0.7.0 was finally released on April 7th after nearly two years of development. It features a redesigned user interface and uses the latest GNOME design patterns.
In addition, some quality-of-life changes have been added, such as preventing the system from suspending while playing, pausing playback when the system enters power-saving mode, and a new preference to always start on pause. The MPRIS integration has also been improved and now allows the use of Next and Prev methods for navigating presets.
Small changes have been made to the built-in sound catalog, including a fix to the pink noise sample and a new train sound.
Dialect
Dialect 2.3.0, released on April 3rd, includes new default instances for LibreTranslate and Lingva Translate, our own hosted services that I wrote about in the Introducing Dialect’s Hosted Services and Open Collective article last year.
This new release also ships with several user interface improvements, such as the ability to configure the font size of text views persistently from the preferences dialog or temporarily with shortcuts. We also now use the new adaptive dialogs from GNOME 46, and include new keyboard shortcuts for opening the language selectors.
Advanced users will be happy to know that we now have the --selection
CLI option to translate the primary clipboard.
Forge Sparks
Forge Sparks 0.3.0, released on April 2, adds support for the GitLab To-Do API; of course, GitLab sends most relevant notifications via email, but this support may be useful for some users.
GitHub support has been improved to include the notification referrer, so that the GitHub notification shelf appears in the web UI when you open a notification.
Small user interface improvements have been made, such as using the new GNOME 46 adaptive dialogs. The application also now includes new icons to distinguish between “release” and “commit comment” notifications.
Several bugs have also been fixed in this release.
Share Preview
Share Preview 0.5.0, released on April 2, includes several improvements; it now supports favicons using the data URL scheme, meta images with relative URLs now fail for Twitter previews, and the Mastodon preview has been updated to reflect recent changes.
Other changes include minor interface improvements such as adding a new shortcut to focus the URL entry (Ctrl
+ L
) and updating some components for GNOME 46.
Diccionario de la Lengua
The Diccionario de la Lengua 0.4.0 released on April 3rd has been updated to the latest changes in the Academia API.
Small improvements have also been made to the web view stylesheet. A new keyboard shortcut Ctrl
+ L
has been added to focus the search entry.
Webfont Kit Generator
As expected for an application in maintenance mode, the Webfont Kit Generator 1.1.1 released on April 1st only contains new translations and updates to use the latest GNOME 46 goodies.
